It doesn’t matter if you prefer showers or baths there are lots of ways you can lower your water consomption when in the bathroom.

Have tap aerators Installed.
Tap aerators are a simple and inexpensive way to reduce water consumption at your tap outlet. Tap aerators with integrated flow regulators reduce the flow rate by 60 % and more, e.g. from the normal 15 litres a minute to a reduced 6 litres a minute.

Use a displacement device in your toilet.
Displacement devices are devices that you place inside your toilet cistern and reduce the amount of water used when you flush. They are available in many forms from a bag of Gel crystals to a simple house brick.

Avoid unnecessary flushing of your toilet.
Never attempt to flush nappies, sanitary towels, face wipes, cotton balls or other bulk items down your toilet. This could result in blocked drains and prove extremely expensive to clear.

Check for worn or corroded toilet cistern parts.
These can be replaced at minimal cost.
Its very annoying to receive a large bill when a leak can be repaired with a 50p washer.

Take a shower not a bath.
A bath will use up to 100 Litres of water, whereas a shower uses only 40 Litres.
If you only have a bath do not over fill the tub.

Use Shower timer to limit shower time.
A battery-operated shower timer can help you cut down the length of time you spend in the shower. They are available in lots of different shapes and designs and you can set them to the length of time you wish and they will sound an alarm once the time is up. Some power showers will use more water than a bath, if used in excess of five minutes. Check with the manufacturers specifications.

Fit a aerated shower head to your shower.
Aerated shower heads maintain a strong stream of water by mixing air in with the water. The resulting flow feels just as invigorating as it would from a normal shower head but uses less water.

Do not let water run whilst cleaning your teeth.
Rinse your brush then turn the tap off whilst brushing you teeth.

Do not let water run whilst shaving.
Place a small amount of water in your sink and use this to shave.
